What happened to Elizabeth Berry Collins? When did Abraham marry Ann?
As the Northampton records from 1719 to 1745 are abstracted and published, we may find more information.

Birthc 1700Northampton, Virginia, The estimated birth year is based on essentially two facts. Abraham Collins was not labeled as a minor in two 1719 records. So it is likely he was 18 or older at the time. The second fact is that Abraham Collins had children in the 1740s. It is more likely he had children in his 40s rather than his 50s. So the best estimate is that he was born in 1700, was 18 when he married Elizabeth Berry and 19 at the recording of the 1719 deeds and was age 39 to 45 when he fathered his 4 known children.
Marriage1718Elizabeth Berry; Northampton County, Virginia, The marriage almost certainly to the younger Abraham Collins (1701-1768) since Elizabeth Berry was a young widow with 3 young sons. On of the young sons, John is found living with the younger Abraham Collins on tithe lists in 1721 and beyond.

Is wife Jane Andrew, the mother of all of his children? If the 1800 Census is correct, Jane Andrew would have been born around 1755. This means she could not have been the mother of Samuel Collins. Based on the break in estimated birth years between these 3 children Samuel (b.1764), George (b.ca1768), Ann (b.ca1769) and these 3 children Mary (b.ca1783), Margaret (b.ca1783), and Jesse (b. aft1780), I would suspect that Jane Andrew is the mother of the latter 3 children, but not the first 3 children. I do not have any candidates at present that could possibly be the mother of the first 3 children. It is also possible the 1800 Census is incorrect and Jane just had a gap between giving birth to her children. Note except for Samuel, the birthdates are estimates from mainly Census records and minimum age for marriage, etc. The ages for the other children were tough to estimate.

Jane Andrew
(1755 - 14 Oct 1824)
Keystones Key Document Summary...
1818 Will - Abraham mentions his wife Jane, and the names of his children and some grandchildren.

The known...
The oldest female in Abraham Collins' 1800 Census record is 26-45. If correct Jane could not have been born before 1755.
Three females were over age 45 in Abraham Collins' 1810 Census record.
Jane's Will only provided for her daughter's (and their daughters), Anne, Mary, and Margaret.

The unknown...
When did Abraham Collins marry Jane Andrew? Is Jane Andrew the mother of all of Abraham Collins' children?

[Not for Commercial Use. Sources and citations provided upon request.]
Birth1755Caroline (Dorchester), Maryland, Birth date range based on husband's head of household Census record in 1800 and 1810.
in 1800 eldest female 26-45 years; in 1810 eldest female 45+ years.

Either the Census of 1800 was incorrect or Jane Andrew was the second wife of Abraham Collins and not the mother of his older children. Both possibilities are equally likely with the evidence analyzed so far.

Based on proximity, names, and ages, I believe Samuel, Cassidy, and James are likely sons of Cassidy & Elizabeth. Below is the Census information proving the information. Scant notes I found from another researcher that I did not document states that Samuel, Cassidy, and Henry C are the sons of Cassidy & Elizabeth. They also add a daughter Elizabeth. This needs further research. Hopefully, a will, court case, or land record contains this information. Needs research.

1840 Census Samuel Raulings (b.ca 1817) living nearby. John Rowins (b.ca 1795) & family nearby (2 younger males, 3 younger females). Margaret Rowin (b.ca 1815) & family (2 young males, 2 young females, no husband aged male)
1840 Census Caroline County - Henry Rawlings (b.1814) & young family
1850 Census in East New Market Dist. - Cassidy Rawlings (b.1813) wife & daughter, 2 houses down James A Rawlings (b.1813) & Charlotte A Rawlings (b.1820)
1850 Census in Fork Dist. - Mrs. Rollins (b.1790), farther away Charles Rowins (b.1825), Harriett Rowins (ca 1831).
1850 Census Caroline Co - Henry C Rollins (b.1814) & family
1860 Census - James Rawlings, Cassidy Rawlings families in Dorchester, widow of Henry Rawlings in Caroline

There is a marriage record for a Cassidy Rawlings marrying Emily Hooper in 1835. I can not find any other Cassidy Rawlings. So I assume he remarried. After 1835, I can not find him in the 1840 Census, so he may have died (or was missed or went by another first name, John Rowins?). Needs research.

Other adults in the 1820 Thomas Light houshold and may be the parents of the children listed. Nancy was 42 when she married Alexander Frampton in 1837 and likely did not have any children by him.

1845 Will of Deborah Collins - Harriett's daughter's Mary (Trice) Charles & Margaret Ann Elsy Walker are listed as granddaughter's of Deborah Collins

The known...
William Trice died before 1825 per another 1825 Deed. Since Harriet married William Trice in 1822 and only one Trice daughter is listed in her mother's Will she likely only had one child by William Trice. Harriet was 37 when she married Robert Walker. He married again in 1840. So she likely died before 1840. Due to her age and that only one Walker daughter is listed in her mother's Will, she likely only had one child by Robert Walker.

The unknown...
In the 1850 Census, I found a Margrett Hooper (b.1833) living with Ann, the widow of Robert Walker (and Mr. Hooper) along with two other Walker children. Could this be Margaret Ann Walker? I could not find her elsewhere in the 1850 Census. By the time of 1860 Census she has likely married and many possible Census entries exist.

The known...

The unknown...
According to the 1830 Census, Samuel Collins (1798-1873) had a male under 5 and a male 5-10 living with him. He also had 2 young females, but did not have a female in his household old enough to be his wife. So it is presumed that Elizabeth F Lewis Collins died shortly before 1830. The young males and females from 1830 are presumed to be his children. A male usually would not be the only adult living with so many young children unless they were his and his wife recently passed away. So what happened to these presumed children?

In the 1850 Census, I can not find any females of the the approximate age that have not been accounted for. By 1850 both of the young females would have been over 20 and likely would be married. It is also possible that one or both died before 1850. A possible daughter is Susan Collins (b.ca1823) who married Tilghman Hubbard in Dorchester County in 1844. They settled in Federalsburg, and had one son, David B Hubbard (b.1849). Susan could have been named for Samuel's sister. The other possibilities are less likely.

Starting in 1845 records for Thomas F Collins begin appearing in the East New Market / Cabin Creek area of Dorchester County. This is an area where descendants of Samuel Collins (1764-1814) settled. The children of Salisbury Collins and Silas Collins are known. So if he is a descenedant of Samuel Collins (1764-1814), he must be a son of Samuel Collins (1798-1873).

Another branch of this Collins family also settled in the upper Dorchester/Cabin Creek/East New Market area. Mary, Robert, William, Henry, Ennals, Eliza Ann, and Jeremiah Collins were identified as siblings in a 1864 record. The record stated their father had long since died (Samuel was alive in 1864). The ages of these siblings match an 1830 Census record in Caroline County for Ennals Collins(1780-aft1830). The siblings names also are prevalent with his family [Ennals(his name), Jeremiah(brother), William(father), etc.].

Thomas F Collins sold land to the younger Ennals Collins in 1854. Samuel lived with this same Ennals Collins in the 1870 Census. Maybe Samuel was allowed to remain on his old land after his son sold the land? The interactions between these branches of the family likely had more to due with proximity than with an immediate family relationship.

1840 Census Dorchester County, MD - Charles Connelly household has a female age 30-40, and 2 females age 15-20. This could be Susan and niece Sarah Ann Collins and another female. Susan may have lived with Charles Connelly in some fashion before she married him in 1846. Otherwise, I do not know where she is during the 1840 Census.
No evidence that she ever had children. She was 46 when she married Charles Connelly.

The unknown...
After a thorough search I can not find him in the 1830 Census or the 1860 Census. However, I found his wife & children in both.
In the 1860 Census Mary L Collins is listed with their known children, plus an entry for Ann Collins, age 56, who is clearly the same Ann Ennals that is listed with Mary L in 1870 & 1880. Labeled as her sister in 1880, she is possibly her mother based on other records. Below the entry for Ann Collins in 1860 is an entry for Albert age 5. I am not sure if he is a Collins or an Ennals or some other last name since the entire record shows Collins. Since Ann Collins is actually Ann Ennals and he is listed below her, this could be Albert Ennals and not a son. He is not listed above the lentry for Ann with the other known children of Silas Collins and Mary L. Albert is also not listed in the Silas/Mary L divorce record. I do not think they actually had a child named Albert. However, many possibilities exist for what this entry refers to.

The male under 5 in 1830 is Samuel E Collins. The male 5-10 in 1830 is believed to be a child of John Sterling and Sophia Smith Sterling Collins. Or the child may not be related at all. The child could not be a son of Silas Collins and first wife Elizabeth Roberts because the child was born between 1820 and early 1825. Silas married Elizabeth Roberts in December 1825. Elizabeth Robers likely died before 1827. A quick divorce is a lesser possibility.

Marriage28 Apr 1846Mary Louisa Ennals; Dorchester County, Maryland
Divorce15 Feb 1859Dorchester County, Maryland, To the Hon. Thomas A Spence, Judge of the Circuit Court for Dorchester County, sitting in Equity.

The Bill of complaints of Mary Louisa Collins of said County, humbly complaining, showeth unto your Honor, that she is a resident of said County in the State of Maryland and she has been during her life. That sometime on or about the 28th day of April in the year 1846, she was married by the Rev. Mr. Murray, a Methodist Minister, in the City of Baltimore, to Silas Collins, then and now a resident of the County of Dorchester in the State of Maryland and from that time until in the month of June 1855 she resided and cohabited with the said Silas Collins as his wife residing in East New Market in Dorchester County. And during all that time, she deported and conducted herself toward her said husband as a good, virtuous and obedient wife should do, and that she has never that she is aware of committed any act to give her said husband and cause to treat her in the manner hereinafter complained of by your Oratrix.

And you Oratrix, further complaining shows to your Honor that sometime and about one year and six months she was married as aforesaid, the said Silas Collins, her husband for no cause or reasonknown to her except it be his habit hereinafter alluded to, of using opium to excess, commenced abusing conduct toward her, using harsh , outrageous and indecent language from time to time, so as to render her life miserable and shock every virtuous sensibility. And after that at different times and frequently from time to time, threatened personal violence to her and finally threatened to maim her and to kill her, and this on several occasions. So frequent was this, so violent his conduct and threats, that your oratrix was in constant fear and dread that he would carry out his threats into execution. And her life was in constant misery. And on several occasions, he made threats against her life with a gun loaded in his hands. On one occasion with a pistol presented in his hands, and at another time with a large butcher knife in his store at East New Market threatened to cut her throat, accusing her of taking from him money, the proceeds of her maiden property hereinafter mentioned.

And you Oratrix further shows to your Honor, that this conduct on the part of her said husband continued from time to time up to the end of the month of June 1855, and during all this time he was in the habit of taking laudanum in large quantities which seemed to have the effect of making him more irritable and violent, unfitting him for business and causing him to set at defiance the amenities and decencies of life and making the existance of your said Oratrix one of almost uninterrupted bitterness and mortification, so that your Oratrix was obliged to take refuge from his violence, on one occasion at least in the house of a neighbor, Dr. Houston.

And you Oratrix further shows that in the latter part of the month of June in the year 1855, on Sunday morning, but the day of the month she cannot recollect, the said Silas Collins her husband rushed into the house in a great rage and violently struck and kicked your Oratrix and caught her by the hair, pulling out a part of her hair, and using all the time the most indecent language. And finally after your Oratrix in her fear of him, had privately requested his daughter Sarah Ann Collins, to go and hide his gun. He searched for the gun and not being able to find it, by threats compelled his said daughter to inform him where it was, which she did begging him at the time not to shoot your Oratrix. And the said Silas Collins having procured the gun threatened to take the life of your Oratrix, which compelled her to leave his house. Learning, as your Oratrix then did, that he would carry his threat into execution, and she then fled from the house in which they were living and took refuge in the house of her sister, Mrs. John Dean. And your Oratrix further shows to your Honor that the said Silas Collins, her husband frequently among other abuse charged her with the crime of adultry.

And your Oratrix further shows that at the time she was thus compelled to leave her said husbands house. She was actually and really in dread and fear that her would carry the threat of taking her life into execution or at least so far carry it into execution as to do her serious bodily harm if it did not result in death. And that he had actually and seriously injured her by his kicks, blows, and pulling out her hair, that since that time he has at no time requested her to return to his house, or sought her return, or givne her any such assurance of kindness or affection as to warrant her to dare to return to him to live and cohabit with him and has not done so. And she now actually believes that if she were to return to live with him, her life or person would be in great danger from his violence and her existence be one of almost perpetual dread, mortification, and sorrow. So that your Oratrix charges that her said husband had driven her away from him and has abandoned her from the time of the said occurance in June 1855 as to the present time.

And your Oratrix further shows to your Honor, that she has three children, the fruit of her said marriage, namely - Thomas, aged about 9 years, Ann, aged about 8 years, and Joseph, aged about 6 years and that for some three or four years before she was driven away and abandoned by her husband, he did nothing for her support nor did he provide clothing for her or support of clothing for her children. He has raised some pork which he sold, that he furnished little or none of it for the family, which he kept, when slaughtered in a smoke house and kept the key to the smoke house, never offering to go to it. And that from her own labor in sewing and from the interest of a small part of her maiden property, she furnished the provision and clothing of the family before she was driven away and abandoned by her husband. And that since she has thus been driven away and abandoned, she has entirely supported and clothed herself and her children, receiving no aid of any kind from her said husband.

And your Oratrix further shows that the furniture of the house in which they lived was purchased by her or out of money realized from her maiden property and she is informed and believes that since her husband has thus abandoned her, her husband has sold the larger portion, if not all of it, in purchasing laudanum or morphine and supporting himself and family by a former or former wives.

And your Oratrix furthrer shows unto your Honor that at the time of her marriage with the said Silas Collins, she was possessed in her own right jointly with her brothers and sisters of a farm called "Goose Creek" situated in Dorchester County, which was after her marriage sold upon application made before her marriage. And that her part of the proceeds of the sale amounted to some nine hundred dollars which was paid to her said husband. That with this money he purchased a lot in the town of East New Market from Dr. Edwin Hooper and wife and the same was deeded by them to your Oratrix in her own right together with the house and improvement thereon erected. And paid for principally out of her money as will appear by reference to a deed or a copy thereof herewith filed and marked Exhibit A. Which your Oratrix prays may be taken as part of this her Bill, with leave to refer to as may be necessary.

And your Oratrix further show unto your Honor, that the said Silas Collins is residing in her said house on the lot belonging to her in East New Market and has there resided ever since the same has been purchased and before, and he has exercized and is now exercizing full and entire control over the same. And she has received and is now receiving no benefit from the same although she has to support herself and her children by him. And she has no means of any kind of property except her own industry from which she has derived any support or benefit.

And you Oratrix painfully convinced by the trials through which she has passed, her husband intemperate use of opium, her constant fear of his violence, his driving her out from him at the pine of her life, his utter abandonment of herself and her said children from the month of June 1855 until this time, his control of her property and means, and her condition of want, that she is remedyless without the intervention of this Honourable Court to sever the bands of matrimony which now bind them and restore her property. Feels contrained, painful and mortifying as the alternative is to seek the dissolution of a band which can no longer yield happiness, peace, comfort, or safety to herself or children. And which said husband himself has virtually severed already by his cruel violence and abandonment and absorption and appropriation of all her little means of support.

To the end therefore, that the said Silas Collins may answer the several matters and things heretofore stated, and that the band of matrimony by which they are bound maybe dissolved and that the property of whatever kind of you Oratrix may be restored to her free and clear of all lein, interest, or control in any way or at any time of her said husband. And that she may have such other or further relief as her case may require.

May it please your honor to grant unto your Oratrix the unit of subpeona against the said Silas Collins of Dorchester County, commanding him to appear at this Court at some certain day to be therein named, to answer the premises and perform such dusee as may be hoped thesein and in duty bound.

1850 Census Dorchester County MD - In a large Bonner household, his wife was listed as Jane Bonner with a daughter Frances J Collins.
I can not find Thomas F Collins in the 1850 Census. He was a sailor and may have been out to sea during the Census.

The unknown...
Do not have a record that definitely proves who his parents are. Thomas F Collins lives in an area where descendants of Samuel Collins (1764-1814) settled. According to the 1830 Census, Samuel Collins (1798-1873) had a male under 5 and a male 5-10 living with him. He also had 2 young females, but did not have a female in his household old enough to be his wife. According to the 1830 Census, Sophia Collins (wife of Silas-he is missing) had a male under 5, and a male 5-10. The male under 5 is Samuel E Collins. The male 5-10 could not be the son of Silas since he first married in Dec 1825. So we assume this male is either a son of Sophia and her first husband John Sterling or not a son at all. The children of Salisbury Collins has been accounted for through his bible. So if Thomas F Collins is a grandson of Samuel Collins (1764-1814), then he must be a son of Samuel Collins (1798-1873). Do not confuse Thomas F Collins with Thomas E Collins who was a son of Silas Collins.

Another branch of this Collins family also settled in this area. This branch were likely children of Ennals or Jeremiah Collins who were sons of William Collins (son of Isaac). Thomas F sold land to the younger Ennals Collins in 1854. Samuel lived with this same Ennals Collins in the 1870 Census. In a Will, the siblings of Ennals are named and Thomas F is not one of them. Also the record indicates the father was dead and Samuel Collins (1798-1873) was alive, so he his not likely the father of the siblings.

Can not find her in the 1900 or 1910 Census in Queen Annes County or Baltimore. Sarah Moore and John Moore are difficult names to search with the limited search capabilities of genealogy.com. Also difficult to tell which if any of the John Moore's in later Baltimore Census'es is her son. Julian C likely died before 1900. Grace is identified as unmarried in her mother's obituary. Grace can be found in Baltimore living alone in 1920.

Did Robert have any children? Her daughter would travel to East New Market for visits from time to time well in the mid-1900s. The married name was something like Burkstreeter according to a former resident of East New Market, Mary Carr. What was her husband's full name. Did they have children?

Die Sep 14 - 1914

Chearles Jan 19 - 1909
June 18 -1909

1906
Father April 5 - 1909

The death date next to father is known to be for Charles Edwin Collins. The Chearles dates in 1909 fit the time period of the death of the brother that died before reaching age 1.
So I am assuming that the other dates are for the mother Ella Allard. The time frame fits.
