9 Railroad Avenue

Dr. J.R. Phillips Office (1874-1878?)

A small square structure is pictured in the northwest corner of the Phillips-Blake House at 9 Railroad Avenue.  This structure is first mentioned in a 1876 tax record for Dr. J.R. Phillips.  It is listed as an office.  Dr. Phillips likely built the office shortly after he bought the property in 1874.  The office is not mentioned in a very detailed article from 1882 about the Phillips-Blake House being destroyed by fire.  The office is also not listed in other records.  It is presumed that Dr. Phillips removed the small building when he relocated to Laurel, Maryland in 1878.
