Carthagena

The Old Collins Farm, The Old Smith Farm

The photo above is from the Library of Congress.  It is described as between East New Market and Cambridge in the Cambridge vicinity.  It was taken in December 1936.  Marc Bramble and Kirk Hurley believe this is part of the Carthagena property just outside of East New Market.   The house was destroyed by fire and a green-blue mobile home now occupies the site.

The farmhouse and other structures pictured are actually west of Creamery Road and slightly west of the western edge of the 1877 Map (and the 1922 map and 2006 map).  The structures are located on a large tract of land called Carthagena that originally stretched all the way from Secretary to the area behind the properties on the west side of Main Street.
