Planning
I expected the planning stage to be a small part of my project. I was so wrong! The planning of the project ended up being one of the most important parts and took a tremendous amount of time. Below are the steps that were part of my process.
Steps to Success
- Find an advisor and get approval
Before I started on my proposal, I needed an advisor for my Gold Award. I spoke with Sally Ainslie, our Children's Ministry coordinator and she agreed to mentor me through the project. The church staff met and agreed to my proposal. - Prepare proposal
I presented my proposal in March 2011 to our council's Gold Award committee. It was approved and I received my council Gold Award advisor. - Find delegation
This was by far the hardest part of my project. Sally gave me a list of several names of people that she thought may be willing to help. I called everyone on the list. I got mostly "NOs" and a few "Maybes". After 4 1/2 months I finally had someone willing to help. After we got started, I found many more parents willing to help and had an abundance of delegates. - Advertise
I made flyers that were handed out at Sunday school and InkWell (Children's Church). I also made posters that were put up in the children's wing. I prepared an item for the church newsletter and I spent many Sunday's answering parent questions about children's choir after services. - Plan Curriculum
One of our members had all of our old children's choir materials, so I didn't have to purchase any additional music. I met with Sally and planned to format for the practices. I planned out the songs we would sing, the crafts, and the music theory I would teach each week.
