Pennypacker-Austin House

Key date analysis:

The 1922 map does not show a structure at this location.   The Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation lists this structure as being built in 1946.  In 1946, Thomas Andrew divided the land at 2 Main Street and created two additional lots.

According to local sources, Norman H. Pennypacker, and Margaret Ann Pennypacker had this house built in 1948.

278 PLC 210 - 20 August 1992 - Rosa Virginia Austin to Thomas Lee Austin for other valuable considerations:  lot on the west side of of Main Street in the town of East New Market.  Beginning at a point 15 feet from the center of said street, opposite a stone on the inside of the pavement, and at the southeast corner of the property formerly owned by John E. Patten, the said place of beginning being also the beginning point in a deed unto Steve Katinsky & Anna Katinsky, his wife, from T. Willis Smith & Katherine W. Smith, his wife, dated 15 October 1946 in 59 RSM 692 and from thence N70/45W 150 feet, running and binding with the former John E. Patten property, now reputed to be owned by Reuben Klausser, and with a part of the first course in said deed to an iron pipe there planted, thence in a southerly direction 65 feet, running and binding with lands formerly owned by Steve Katinskey & wife, now reputed to be owned by Webster Blake, to an iron pipe there planted, thence S70/45E 150 feet, running and binding with the said other land of Steve Katinsky or Webster Blake in a line parallel with the first course hereof reversed, to the said west side of Main Street, and thence in a northerly direction, running and binding with the said west side of Main Street 65 feet to the place of beginning.  Being the same property conveyed unto Thomas William Austin and Rosa Virginia Austin, his wife, from Norman H. Pennypacker & Margaret Ann Pennypacker, his wife, by deed dated 25 April 1958 in 109 RSM 273.  Upon the death of the said Thomas William Austin on 5 September 1979, title is vested absolutely in Rosa Virginia Austin by virtue of the right of survivorship.

Pennypacker & Margaret Ann Pennypacker to Thomas William Austin & Rosa Virginia Austin, his wife, for $5:  Lot on the west side of Main Street in the town of East New Market.  [described as above].  Land is part of the land which was conveyed unto the said Steve Katinsky & Anna Katinsky, his wife, by T. Willis Smith & Katherine W. Smith, his wife, by deed dated 15 October 1946 in 59 RSM 692 and being the same lands conveyed unto Norman H. Pennypacker from Steve Katinsky by deed dated 8 November 1947 in 64 RSM 457.

Willis Smith & Katherine W. Smith, his wife, on 15 October 1946 in 59 RSM 692

Smith, his wife, to Steve Katinsky & Anna Katinsky, his wife, for $5:  lot on the west side of Main Street in the town of East New Market.  Beginning at the northeast corner at a point 15 feet from the center of said road opposite a stone on the inside of the pavement, and at the southeast corner of the property of John E. Patten, thence with the said John E. Patten lot and the land of William T. Hubbard, N70/45W 308.5 feet to a granite marker; thence with the land of the said William T. Hubbard,, S4W 29 feet to a granite marker; thence S8/30E 296 feet to a granite marker on the west side of the aforesaid State Road; and thence running and binding northwesterly and on the westward side of the State Road to the place of beginning.  Said courses and distances being taken from a certificate of survey made by John C. Fisher, Surveyor, and dated 14 May 1946.  The land conveyed is the identical land and all thereof which was conveyed unto the said T. Willis Smith & Katherine W. Smith, his wife, by Thomas H. Andrew, unmarried, by deed dated 17 May 1946 in 58 RSM 191.

[described as above].  The land to be conveyed was devised unto the said Thomas H. Andrew by the Last Will and Testament of Gertrude H. Andrew, deceased, recorded 18 January 1944 in 5 RPS 264.  Said land also being a part of the land which was conveyed unto the said Gertrude H. Andrew by William J. Hopkins, assignee, by deed dated 1 December 1894 in 18 CL 697, being part of the land described as Lots Nos. 1 and 2.
