Ms. Maggie's Cottage

Key date analysis:

The 1896 tax record shows both of Ms. Maggie's Cottages existed by this date.  The 1876 tax record does not list the cottages and the 1877 does not show them.  Thus they were built between 1877 and 1896.

Who built it:

Elbridge S. Johnson and Maggie H. Johnson had the cottages built between 1877 and 1896.

Longest Residents:

Charles and Mildred Hurley lived here 26 years. Maggie Johnson owned the cottage for 20 to 30 years, but likely rented it out.

More Research:

The Maryland Trust Inventory form and "Between the Nanticoke and the Choptank" give conflicting dates of construction.  One states 1884 and the other states 1894.  Need to determine the original source of this information and find a newspaper account during this time fram.
