Mackey-Rawlings-Reid House

Key date analysis:

When John Mackey sold the northern 1/2 acre part of this lot to Thomas Light in 1812 he described the lot as being north of his house.  Therefore, a house existed on this lot prior to 1812.  In 1824 John Mackey sold to Cassidy Rawlings, the lot in New Market where the said Rawlings now lives.  Between 1876 and 1896, the assessed value of this property increased from $600 to $1000.  Edward Reid likely enlarged the house during this time period.

Who built it:

John Mackey likely built the house sometime between 1796 and 1812.  Edward Reid likely added to the house between 1876 and 1896.

Longest Residents:

Cassidy & Elizabeth Rawlings family 52 years; Edward W. & Mary E. Reid family 44 years;  Myra F. Jones 38 years.

More Research:

This house could benefit from an inspection by an architectural historian to determine if the house was indeed built prior to 1805.  Dendrochronology could also establish the construction date of the house.
